running out of free time
As I will be starting my new job on Monday, my days of enjoying doing absolutely nothing are almost at an end. *Sniff* :o( Actually, I don't think it will be so bad. As much as it has been nice to have absolutely nothing to do for the past 2.5 months, on some days I have been down right bored out of my mind. Sometimes, there is such a thing as too much daytime TV, even if I am a huge fan of Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel and the Barefoot Contessa on Food Network. I really need a paycheck. I'm living off my credit card at the moment, and that's just no fun. I'm not sure I'm looking forward to the first week or two of work though because that entails working Monday through Friday. While I would at some point in my life like to work a more normal work schedule than nurses typically work, my commute is so long that I don't want to work more than just 3 days a week.
I suppose I should update about my absolute melt down on Friday. I ended up calling the nurse recruiter, Wendi, at UNC who has been working with me in the process of finding and starting my new job. She was by far the most helpful person I talked to all day. She went on the internet and found an urgent care center for me not too far from my home. She suggested I just go there, save the receipt and deal with insurance later. I also decided to take my mom's advice that sometimes you need to look out for yourself first and then worry about insurance. So I had planned on going to the urgent center on Monday, but interestingly my bumps started to disappear. Well, this morning a few new ones popped up so I went today. I guess I have contact dermatitis. As these bumps started to appear about a week after I moved here, I've been trying to think of any products or anything that have been different since that time. Soap, shave gel, razors, and moisturizer all seem to be the same. All I can think of at the moment is laundry detergent or fabric softener. My mom uses Cheer, and I have been using Cheer down here, but as I have one of those new front loading washers my detergent is high efficiency whereas my mom's is not. I don't know if that might make any difference. I've also been using Snuggle fabric softener here, which mom does not use, but I used Snuggle in college and never had a problem. My mom also suggested that I might be using too much detergent. This seems to be the most likely idea so far. I've noticed that the water here is much softer than in Cleveland, so maybe using the usual amount of detergent is too much and the soap isn't washing completely out. Next time I do laundry I will start cutting back on the amount and see how that affects my legs.
